August. When film studios bring in the final harvest of the crop sown in May, before the weather turns cold and cineplexes reap the whirlwind of horror and holiday movies. The dog days of summer, before the bitter chill of awards season sets in. And the last hurrah of big-budget popcorn cinema, the most mindless of all movies.
