Alejandro Iñárritu won back-to-back Best Director Oscars for his 2014 and 2015 films Birdman and The Revenant. While both films were technically complex, both were box office hits, and both films won Oscars for their lead actors and for cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, only Birdman won the Oscar for Best Picture.
